MS is an autoimmune, progressive, inflammatory, demyelinating disease. It’s autoimmune because the immune system mistakenly attacks normal cells in the central nervous system (CNS). It’s progressive because it gets worse with time. It’s inflammatory because it causes inflammation in the areas of the CNS it attacks. And it’s demyelinating because the problem revolves around the stripping of the myelin sheath that covers and protects neural pathways in the brain. The MS Society estimates there are 130,000 people in the UK alone living with MS – there is a special population out there needing your services.
