This online course, constructed by award-winning fitness presenters Maria Teresa Stone and Marietta Mehanni, is designed to help you understand the important role that music plays in group fitness, empower you to use it to your advantage in class and help you find the beat so you are never off-beat again.

Course outcomes
- Be able to listen to music and work out the beat per minute.
- Understand how music is structured in regards to 8 beats per phrase and 4 phrases per block (32 counts).
- Identify where the start of a block is in music and how to identify the individual phrases.
- Understand how to map music to provide a visual context of the format of a music track.

Maria Teresa Stone
Maria Teresa Stone grew up dancing in Mexico and has been actively working in the fitness industry since 1996, teaching a range of land and water group fitness classes. She has experience managing gyms, having done that role in Mexico and the UK. Maria Teresa was instrumental in successfully launching ZUMBA in 2009 in New Zealand and Australia. Over the past decade, she has trained thousands of instructors across the Australasia Pacific region. She has now evolved to teach virtual training since the start of the pandemic. She was inducted to the Roll of honour by Fitness Australia in 2016 for her contribution to the fitness industry. Maria Teresa is the co-founder of My Group Move, an online platform that trains new instructors and supports current group fitness instructors. She is a regular presenter at FILEX, FITEX and ZUMBA conventions. Passionate about holistic health, she is a certified gut health and well-being coach and is the co-founder of the 18 Days to Well-being program along with her sister, Eliza Stone.

Marietta Mehanni
Marietta Mehanni is a trailblazer in fitness innovation and education. She is co-founder of mSwing and My Group Move, international Gymstick programme co-ordinator and master trainer, and Aqua Alliance director. With a pivotal role in organising the AquaSummit 2024, an exclusive event for aqua professionals focused on sharing insights, enhancing expertise and strengthening industry connections, she makes a significant impact on the aquatic fitness sector. Marietta has been instrumental in integrating pelvic floor awareness into fitness practices and launched an online membership platform and live workshops, broadening her educational outreach. Revered for her dynamic training methods and ability to inspire fitness professionals through her workshops, Marietta’s journey is marked by a blend of innovation, dedication and a deep commitment to enhancing fitness education globally.
